Dino Villani collection

Motivated by the generosity of the family and its intent to preserve in Suzzara territory the memory of the artist and his production, the Dino Villani Collection was born due to the donation of the Art and Craft School Foundation "F. Bertazzoni", which constitutes the initial core of the collection. It dates back to October 1, 1992

The origin of the Collection: the 1992 donation and the "Dino Villani" hall Motivated by the generosity of the family and its intent to preserve in Suzzara territory the memory of the artist and his production, the Dino Villani Collection was born due to the donation of the Art and Craft School Foundation "F. Bertazzoni", which constitutes the initial core of the collection. It dates back to October 1, 1992, when Stelio Villani, son of the artist, signed an act of donation with Carlo Bondioli, President of the School. This first collection consists of 74 oil paintings of different sizes and different supports, painted from 1916 to 1984. Thus the "Dino Villani" Hall, one of the most beautiful meeting rooms in the area, located on the ground floor of the School, on whose walls the painter's oil paintings were permanently displayed, was born. Villani hall hosts the collateral show of the exhibition every year. The 2003 donation and the 2004 exhibition On February 8, 2003, about a decade after the first, the School - which was about to become a Foundation - received a second donation from the Villani heirs. It is made up of 85 original engravings, including etchings and drypoints, made between 1926 and 1984. Among the engravings in question are some of the best works of the artist. To celebrate the new donation on October 10, 2004, thanks to the commitment of President Carlo Bondioli, the exhibition Dino Villani was inaugurated at the Art and Craft School Foundation "F. Bertazzoni". For the occasion, in addition to the oil paintings exhibited in the "Dino Villani" Hall, in the dedicated room of the engineer Francesco Bertazzoni, were shown the newly acquired engravings, some original plates and the press of the artist. Some personalities were present, such as Stelio Villani and other family members, the photographer William Zanca and journalist Siro Brondoni. Before the vernissage, Vittorio Sgarbi and Enrico Voceri, president of the International Art and Culture Center of Palazzo Te visited the exhibition. As a report of the exhibition, the School published a catalog of the Collection. Recent acquisitions: the 2015 donation The group of recently acquired works was kept for many years at the exhibition hall of Palidano di Gonzaga (MN). After it closed, the entire collection of 227 oil paintings and 11 drawings - made between the early years of the century and the beginning of the eighties - was donated to the Art and Craft School Foundation "F. Bertazzoni" in Suzzara. This collection was added to the 159 works already preserved in the same venue, ending up being the most important collection of works by Dino Villani, painter and engraver, a cultural heritage of about four hundred works of great importance and extraordinary interest for the territory. The restoration For the conservation and restoration work of the collection, the Foundation has made use of the professionalism of restorer Rossella Gorreri, native of Suzzara and related to the Villani family (Dino was her paternal grandmother’s brother). The affection for the illustrious relative and the sincere appreciation for his work have led the restorer to devote herself with special dedication to the important maintenance work of the entire Collection. Villani Museum: work in progress With the hope of having contributed profoundly to the laying of this first metaphorical stone of the Dino Villani Museum and confident that we can continue our mission of creating and enhancing the museum's heritage, the Art and Craft School Foundation "F. Bertazzoni" will await the public to present the results of what is anticipated as a demanding job, but also as a fascinating new adventure.
