EN - Le origini del paese risalgono all’epoca romana, come dimostrano i ritrovamenti nella cava d’argilla Begnarde, di un pozzo e i resti di due edifici. Queste testimonianze, suggeriscono che il luogo fu abitato almeno dal I secolo a.C. fino al II secolo d.C. e probabilmente in quell’epoca abbandonato a causa di una piena del Po. Ai margini della palude che circondava l’area, si sviluppò nel Medioevo, il paese di San Giovanni del Dosso.

    Giovanni di Niccolò Luteri, commonly known as Dosso Dossi (San Giovanni del Dosso, 1474 - Ferrara, 1542), was an Italian painter. He was the main artist in the Este Castle in Ferrara in the early sixteenth century, the era of Ariosto, whose fantastic stories was a striking interpreter. His works are exhibited in the most prestigious museums around the world.
